Designer Spotlight: Esther
Thank you to everyone for a successful 2016 at Easy Installations! Our company continues to expand and we are excited for another dynamic year. For the next couple Friday’s we’ll be celebrating the past year by taking a look at some of our favourite kitchens from 2016. This week we’re focusing on a kitchens designed by Esther.
First up is this Marsta kitchen allows for maximum customization with the inset handles. Ikea supplies foil stickers in white, oak, pink, and dark brown, but our clients took it a step further by painting the removable inserts a soft turquoise to match their back splash tile.
These clients had a European background and were already savvy to Ikea’s modern styles so the Marsta was a natural choice for their design aesthetic. Embracing their West Coast style home with large open rooms, they wanted the look to feel clean and modern but with warmth from natural products to blend with the slick lines of the Marsta.
Conventional crown moulding and light valance wasn’t the route for them so we wrapped the cabinets in birch panel to reinforce the clean lines and nod to the handle cut outs. We love this pantry wall for maximum storage space while balancing the kitchen space by keeping the sink wall simple with open shelving on the walls. Check out that wine rack beside the fridge! Ikea’s Horda open cabinets are a perfect way to use up narrow spaces and make you feel like a sommelier in your own home.
Next this warm and contemporary best describes this Bodbyn Gray kitchen. This seaside townhouse is full of light and our clients already had a gray colour theme throughout their space so the Bodbyn Gray was an easy choice.
The ever popular Bodbyn glass doors helped this galley kitchen feel larger and the Grevsta stainless steel Ikea toe kicks took it to the next level in style. All of the lower cabinets display two drawer fronts for uniformity, but they sport interior “whisper” drawers for maximum storage.
The sink cabinet is actually an over-sized drawer with two drawer fronts strapped together to allow for a recycling and garbage bin pull out, while keeping with the uniform lines of the kitchen.
Finally, don’t underestimate smaller spaces. Esther expertly designed this kitchen to give our client the most functionality and storage space possible, there are actually 20 cabinets in this kitchen!
Our client wanted to salvage her existing tile floor so keeping a similar layout to her previous kitchen was essential. Our team is always willing to work with what the client wants to incorporate into their new kitchen, and often gutting the entire space and starting fresh either isn’t feasible or necessary. Another bonus is that we donated the previous cabinets to the Habitat for Humanity Restore, who we’ve volunteered with in the past! Since the tile floor was staying we ended up sending very little of the old kitchen from this project to the landfill.
There are no windows in the kitchen so the Bodbyn Off-White doors were the best solution for keeping the space light and airy for this ocean view condo. For this project we partnered with T-Square Construction to update the space and make it “grandchild friendly”.
As you can see Esther has a classic design style that blends modern elements with the character of the past. Esther has been praised by our clients for her excellent customer service, attention to detail, and her beautiful designs.
