An Island is the Centerpiece to your Kitchen and Home

The kitchen is the heart of your home; this concept was taken into consideration when our lead designer, Esther Moores, worked with this busy family of four, plus cats. Ikea’s best-selling “GRIMSLOV” off-white door style was chosen to blend well with the home owner’s classic and contemporary sense of style that will stand the test of time.

Often times it is requested our wall cabinets reach the ceiling but with cathedral ceiling and arched window this was not going to be suitable.  Instead Esther used Ikea’s 30” tall wall cabinets were and allowed the clients to have display space above.

The main requests from the clients were to remove the typical kitchen table and make way for a substantial island complete with storage and seating for 5.  To ensure the living room was not encroached by the island seating, our client came up a jog in the island so chairs could be neatly kept within the kitchen.  Ikea’s varied cabinet depth sizes came in handy here by using their 15″ deep cabinets on this seating end of the island.  To re-enforce the dining zone here a wine ‘X’ was also created – planned by Esther and thoughtfully executed by our installer, Noah.  To finish it off our friends over at Bullseye the Granite Guy supplied the Caesar Stone counter tops.

Cabinet functionality and keeping the countertops clear of clutter are always top priorities for our clients. This is a challenge all of our designers face and Esther felt it was best to stow the microwave within the base cabinets of the island. A microwave is an appliance that is usually needed in a kitchen but not everyone wants to see.  Here the microwave is tucked away across from the oven which is great for those who don’t want to reach high for hot foods and lends a chance for children to aid with meal prep.  You won’t find this particular microwave cabinet on their website, but our designers are experts at adjusting the Ikea cabinets to make them work best for your space.

Ikea recently came out with a ready to go 12″ pull out drawer, which we love! A major benefit to using Easy Installations designers is they know what Ikea has to offer and often times create something amazing out of Ikea’s endless array of products.

Our clients understood how to dress a room and finished it off with colours and pieces that made them happy – a wall clock the client knew she wanted, comfortable counter height stools and simple, sophisticated pendants.  They’ll be comfortable in this kitchen 20 years from now, trends come and go, but classics like these stick around!
